Cynthia Kung, PsyD
Psychological Assistant
OCCC Associate
Dr. Kung is a resigtered Psychological Assistant (PSB32902) at Vision Quest Psychological Services, supervised by Dr. Jennifer Fee, licensed psychologist, PSY 17501. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Rosemead School of Psychology.
Dr. Kung writes,
"When I was 19-years-old, I lost my beloved great-grandmother, who in many ways was my closest kin. With her departure, I fell into a period of depression that I was not even aware of. I thought it was just a grieving period that would go away in time, but it did not. Sometimes, tears would just come without any reason at all. I started to have no interest in things that I used to find pleasurable. Even when I was walking home from school, I would drag my feet because I did not want to go home to an empty house where I will miss my great-grandmother.
"Thankfully, I sought help early and did not let those depressive symptoms develop into a more chronic condition or a full-blown depressive disorder, but those symptoms alone was enough to rob me of my joy. That was when I came to accept that I was depressed and decided to turn to God and to seek help from others to normalize my grief and walk with me through this difficult time in my life.
"The word of God kept me alive spiritually, and literally turned 'my sorrow into dancing,' 'my weeping into rejoicing.' Those were words written in the Bible that I never quite understood how that could be possible until I had experienced it myself.
"And I have seen the damaging effects of depression in the lives of many people that were close to me, as well as had clients that I had worked with. Depression just robbed them of the joy that they were meant to have, and handicapped their life, and distorted their future outlook. Many people stay stuck in that depressed state, where they sees things so dark, bleak, and without hope.
"Since my own experience of victory over depression, I grew a passion in working with people who suffers from a mood disorder and I do enjoy working with them to bring them hope and a future that God had intended for each of us. God said that He comes to give us life and life more abundantly. That promise is for you as well. So if you are suffering from depression or anxiety, or any mood disorders, do not wait any longer, help is just a phone call away."
